Anduril Industries and Meta have announced a strategic partnership to launch integrated extended reality products for the United States military. Together, Meta’s augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technology will pair with Anduril’s solution, the Lattice platform – an AI-powered command and control system. The visualization is designed to give soldiers immersive, real time visualization of data in order to enhance their battlefield awareness and decision making.

Fully privately funded, with high performance components and technology originally developed for commercial applications. The purpose of this approach is to reduce the cost to the armed forces and draw upon in advanced technologies. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, took pride in the partnership and pointed to Meta’s decade long investment in AI and AR to realize the platform of computing tomorrow. “This is technology that we seek to support American servicemembers with,” he said.

The focus is to integrate Meta AR/VR capabilities with the Anduril’s Lattice platform. The development of lattice is designed to make sense of data coming from many data sources, in real time so that information can be fed into decision making based on tactical needs. With AR/VR interfaces, Lattice’s data will be accessible to soldiers to see, sense and integrate with battlefield information, increasing operational effectiveness in combat.

Anduril and Meta have already jointly submitted a bid for the Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) Next program. The goal of this program is to create a digital awareness system for soldiers as we bolster the integration of XR technologies into military operations.

This represents a major advance in uniting advanced consumer technology with national defense initiatives, with the possible transformation of training, operational planning and field effectiveness through immersive, interactive XR applications.
