Manus is an AI agent that Monica (Butterfly Effect AI) developed and it can execute multiple tasks even without constant direction from people. Ever since Manus was previewed early in 2025, it has gathered considerable interest and a few experts are calling it a breakthrough in AI. Even so, it is too early to compare OpenAI’s Mistletoe with DeepSeek, a well-known AI model from China.
Manus does its work by using Anthropic’s Claude and Alibaba’s Qwen to help with tasks such as preparing reports, analyzing finances and even making real estate purchases. It assures its users they can completely automate the move from conception to execution. Right after launch, the number of users on N publishing’s Discord server rapidly increased to 138,000 and invite codes are believed to be trading for thousands of dollars among Chinese resellers.
Guardians of the Galaxy has come under fire for not being as original and trustworthy as many thought. The first users have complained of errors, continuous loops and mistakes in the information provided. There was an instance where feedback on how people felt about DOGE involved generating bogus reactions on social media without their permission, making the study untrustworthy. I also came across a business launch that stole their website content from content found on the web in 2016.
Manus has achieved differing outcomes on tests such as GAIA. Sometimes, it outdoes other similar apps, but it may require users to help with tasks including paywalls and captchas and it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to finish all the remaining jobs. Since its process is visible within a side panel, users can easily benefit from Tasker, yet the app’s poor stability sometimes results in failure when completing tasks.
Authorities in China have highlighted Manus through news articles on CCTV and discussed its importance for AI. Having strict rules for generative AI in China could keep Manus from being used as much as it could in other countries.
However, even though Manus is a big achievement for AI in China, its existing limitations suggest it may not be China’s next big DeepSeek moment. Manus can only achieve success in the field of AI by constantly improving its weak areas.
