Palo Alto startup Context landed $11 million in seed funding to create what it calls an AI native office suite aimed at revolutionizing productivity tools. “Valued at $70 million, the company raised funding from Lux Capital and Qualcomm Ventures and General Catalyst,” reads a statement from Plume. The funding takes Context’s total close to $15.75 million.

Context is a 2024 Thiel Fellow Joseph Semrai creation that aims to fill the gap in office software that does not take advantage of the full power of modern AI capabilities. Existing tools lack the capability to be optimized for the advanced reasoning and multitasking power of present day AI models, Semrai observed. Context is answering that call by bringing an office suite from the ground up, it will put AI at its heart to boost user productivity.

Platform features a suite of AI inspired tools, including:

Quickly generates polished reports, proposals, as well as most any other document type you can think of.

Creates professional, executive ready presentations with intelligent formatting and compelling narratives.

AI Spreadsheets is a tool that automatically analyzes, visualizes & makes eas/e forecasts from complex data, without any manual formulas.

Intelligently generates, reviews and debugs code in order to accelerate development workflows as a data analyst.

Context’s distinguishing feature is being a “local first” piece of software which allows it to run everywhere (web, desktop and mobile) and keep sensitive data on premise. This design is geared for enterprises and government agencies who put a big premium on data security and compliance.

Over sixty thousand professionals have signed onto the startup’s waitlist ahead of its much anticipated public launch next month. It is presumably due to this early interest that AI-driven solutions, saving time and making workflows more streamlines and less filled with legacy system inefficiencies, are actively sought after.

Other productivity tools flesh out features with AI but that is not what Context is doing. With Context, we wanted to create an altogether more cohesive and intelligent user experience by building an AI native suite from the ground up. The company aims to help their small business customers integrate the most advanced AI capabilities into the tools they use for their office every day, positioning it as a possible mover and shaker in the next phase of workplace technology.

With AI increasingly changing industries, Context’s forward thinking around office productivity tools are a dip into a bigger trend, of smarter more efficient digital workspaces. With the success of its latest funding round, it shows that investors are having good faith in their company vision and believe they could revolutionize how professionals interact with digital tools.
